Hello everyone, this is the latest episode review of Yashahime Princess Half-Demon. Though I’ll be frank, it was a one-off that doesn’t move the story along except one big bad showing up, the last of the four perils, Konton.

He is a demon from the mainland that delves into the art of Tao, a Chinese Philosophy; humans and animals should live in harmony and balance or humility and religious piety. This was written by someone named Lao-Tzu.

Konton abilites pretty much extend in Taoism in form of paper talismans and Chinese magic, making him a hard opparenet for Towa, Setsuna and Moroha this episode.

Even though there is dialouge of Moroha mentioing her wanting to continue to travel with Towa and Setsuna due to being cousins and just liking their compnay due to being lonley, Setsu brushes it off due to bounty hunting and demon slaying being different mediums and Towa actually just wants to find that butterfly.

Though Towa changes her mind fast when she learns that if she wants any hits on her quest, she could put in a bounty on the butterfly and info could get to her but in order to do that, she needs money and the job that Moroha took offers the amount she needs, so the duo head off after her

Setsuna is easily to tell Moroha the reason for following her and not revealing the real one, and the trio head off!

The trio come across a village or something and bump into a turtle kid who is alone due to Konton taking his father’s shell. Note, the turtle demon is a species you see in Inuyasha Final Act where that incarnation of Naraku was absorbing random demons and he gained the attribute of that turtle.

They bump into Konton, who now has fashioned the turtle shell into body armor, protecting him from physical attacks and making him “invincible”.

When that’s realized, Moroha tries to get the kid to be her protection but he latches onto Towa since she’s nicer. Granted, Moroha was trying to hype up the kid’s confidence but she’s a loose cannon at times with her approach.

Towa fights Konton and it’s one-sided until she pours her demonic energy into the armor and the spirit of the turtle demon awakens and offers sound advice for his son to use his attack to destroy the armor. it happens and Towa is able to get the armor off.

As Moroha and Setsuna go for the last attack, Konton escapes and by the end of the episode, he swears revenge.

On the half-demon’s side of the story, the turtle demon child decides to stay and pray for his father’s soul to find peace and he will be doing this for 50 years…yeah we will never see this kid again. The trio will continue their journey.

See, short, right? Sorry, there was nothing big happening in this episode. Other than some funny moments, nothing in the grand scheme of Yashahime content. Sure, we get Konton, the last of the perils but seriously, these “4 Perils” are kind of big hyped up jokes.

They seem to be big and bad but wind up getting their asses handed to them left, right and center. I mean, these demons are from the mainland and are supposed to be these forms of terror but with Kyuki getting offed and the other one killed by Moroha, it’s appearing it’s nothing but talk.

Yes, Konton seems to be tricky with what he can do and having some twisted form of “balance” with his skill set but it’s coming across as typical antagonists and not much depth as a character.

And don’t get me started with the rate of character progression as Moroha leads, Towa a close second and Setsuna just a snails pace to anything extrodinary or deep happening.

I do have this expectation since this is a sequel series to a popular medium and we are gaining clues. However, this is proving to downplay my interest levels since I just want to get answers and these bits of breadcrumbs aren’t doing it.

No, I’m not giving up in the slightest, the show is good if the episode’s seem “monster of the week” at this point. Though if that’s the case, any anime like Sailor Moon had that going on yet kept up the entertainment levels, depending on the season.

FYI, Super Stars anime sucks ass with pushing the guardians to the background and being downgraded personality wise for flipping Chibiusa and Minako got the fucking blunt of that season! I might right about that at some point.

I give episode 9 of Yashahime, a 6.5 out of 10. We know this could be better once we get to some point but for now, we’ll just have to wait.

Sorry for lack of pictures or gifs, really no point to illustrate an okay episode.

Until next time!
